Toddlers manipulate gross and fine motor play equipment throughout the padded play area. Equipment is periodically changed out to spark interest and promote physical challenge, language, and social interaction for these movers and shakers! Babies are also welcome on the floor during Toddler Open Play times.

3-Year-Olds Martial Arts Classes

Ages 3 – 4 years

Taught by Upper Westside owner Lara Jones, M.Ed. and Martial Artist of 20 years, this 25-minute weekly class combines direct instruction, fun organized games, and challenge courses. Children aged 3-4 are challenged to further explore formal movements in a manner that sparks their imagination and self-control. Fitness materials/props, and basic class protocol are used as tools to help them explore basic body mechanics in depth. Goals include moving towards greater independence, learning how to focus throughout the class session, physical competence, increased confidence, learning how to work with an instructor, interacting peacefully alongside peers, and understanding/accepting challenge. Students participate in clean-up prior to the close of class (promotes ownership, and the life-skill of “Organization”).

Class size is limited to 5 participants per session.

***Caretakers remain on other side of mats/half-wall, or may leave the gym entirely while class is in session. The needs of each individual student vary; some children excel when their families or caretakers stay on to watch class, while others are better able to focus when left on their own to attend class

Special Notes about Kids’ Martial Arts Classes

You may e-mail ahead to inquire after openings in the 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s classes. If there’s room, you will be invited to come in and give one class a try for free prior to signing up for regular classes: info@upperwestsideplaygym.com

Class size is limited to 6 participants per session.

Our Family Discount for all additional family members [child or adult] in any of our movement programs [upstairs or down] is $25 a month.

Upper Westside uses third-party billing service and billing agreements, not contracts. Students may cancel at any time. Students train for one month up front prior to being charged tuition. If families give 30 days notice, we can make sure that there is no overcharge. Without 30 days notice, we can still sometimes get the agreement cancelled without an extra month charge. It is the guardian’s responsibility to let us know if they want to cancel or hold an account. The best method is to email Lara directly at westsideakf@gmail.com

Students may make up missed classes (within four week’s time) with prior arrangement, if there is room in the chosen other section within their age group. Families must schedule make-up classes in advance.

To either cancel/hold and account, or schedule make-up classes, please email Lara at info@upperwestsideplaygym.com
