Are you feeling tired of tantrums? Done with dawdling and defiant children? Craving less whining and more cooperation?

Young children often express their needs through tantrums, dawdling, screaming, whining, shutting down, talking back, spirited negotiation and more. Learn where these behaviors come from (insights into your child’s brain development) and how to successfully reduce these challenging behaviors in your home. Includes research-based and parent-tested specific tools and techniques to address hard behaviors. We will also examine how parents/caregivers can get themselves into a better space for handling the hard times with young children.

This seminar is appropraite for parents and caretakers of children from birth through age 10. All presentation, discussion, and Q&A components will be led by Dr. Lynn Collins, a licensed psychologist who has worked for over 20 years with families with young children. She is also an adjunct professor at Portland State University in the Infant Toddler Mental Health Graduate Certificate Program. Dr. Collins frequently presents in the community on a variety of topics related to parenting. She also has a small private practice and works with families when they are feeling “stuck” and want to find ways to help their families get into a better, happier space.

Pre-registration is appreciated, and cost is offered on a sliding scale. Fee Waivers are also available by written request. Any requests or questions can be addressed to Lara Jones @

This talk will take place at Southwest Portland Martial Arts in SW Hillsdale. There are two campuses within a block of one another, and the exact location will be announced as the date approaches.  *Adults only please, and quiet babes-in-arms.

The 2019 SW Portland Preschool Fair is scheduled to take place at Southwest Portland Martial Arts and CrossFit Hillsdale @ 1509 SW Sunset Blvd and on Sunday, January 13th 2019 from 1-3PM. This event has been very well attended in past years, and continues to grow! Vendors are responsible for helping promote (spread word of) the event, and for bringing in their own [small] tables and chairs, materials, etc. Everyone works together to help fit all vendors in to line the perimeter of the gym. Those with more space are asked to offer to share with a neighbor.

This is not a competitive or high-pressure sales-pitch venture! The spirit of the event rests on helping inform local families, and assisting them in finding a “best fit” preschool community for their family. *The greater the quality of the total local preschool scene, the more each individual school benefits overall;)

This year, schools/vendors are required to pay a $50 registration fee up front. The organizers found it necessary to average out contributions schools had given in the past, to help ensure that they will be properly compensated for all the time and energy put in to ensure that this event will be well-attended, and successful!

Spots are limited, and available on a first-come, first-serve basis with registration/payment via this portal.
